ABOUT DOUGLAS

Mr Douglas McGeorge is a consultant plastic surgeon with more than 30 years of consultant-level experience. His main interests are cosmetic breast surgery and facial rejuvenation. What to expect at your consultation

Your consultation is an opportunity to discuss your goals, medical history, treatment options, risks and recovery. You do not need to choose a specific procedure beforehand. Discuss the changes you are considering, any functional concerns and any previous surgery. Douglas can explain which options, if any, are appropriate for you.

Costs and aftercare

Ask for a written quotation explaining:

  • Surgeon, anaesthetist and hospital fees.
  • Tests and any overnight accommodation.
  • Follow-up appointments and aftercare.
  • Any exclusions or potential additional charges.
  • Arrangements and potential costs for complications or revision surgery.

Before your operation, make sure you know who to contact urgently, including outside normal opening hours.

Anaesthetic options: General anaesthesia vs Twilight anaesthesia

Douglas performs most procedures under general anaesthesia. This means you are unconscious throughout the operation and do not remember the surgery. An anaesthetist monitors you closely throughout the procedure.

Some procedures may be performed using local anaesthetic with sedation, often called “twilight anaesthesia”. The local anaesthetic numbs the treatment area, while sedation helps you feel relaxed and sleepy. Depending on the depth of sedation, you may remain aware of parts of the procedure and remember some of it afterwards.

The most suitable anaesthetic approach will be discussed during your assessment, taking your health and planned surgery into account.
